The Work Package 1 activities allowed the SUDOE Stop CO2 partners to obtain crucial information in order to develop further actions. In the beginning it were identified all the stations in cities with at least 50 000 inhabitants. 244 is the number of the transport facilities that has been taken in consideration, divided by country as follows: 165 in Spain, 52 in Portugal and 27 in France.

Bus and train stations are usually old public buildings with high energy consumption , thus high costs. Statistics confirm this hypothesis: Spanish facilities average age is 55 years, Portuguese one is 81 years and the French is 145 years. Average data is mostly affected by the old train buildings along the three countries. Other types of stations data were analyzed as well. For example the number of travelers, areas, the presence of parking, electric vehicles chargingr points, cycle lanes and past energy certificates obtained.

A very important step was the countries regulatory framework on energy issues. The regulatory framework has been analyzed in all aspects of the station management: energy production, walls, ceilings, ventilation, air conditioning, heating system, fluid transport and lighting. The good news is that there are not main complications that can somehow restrain SUDOE Stop CO2’s activities.

At the same time, all the station managers were identified and contacted. Thus project aim and details were showed to them. They are crucial partners for two reasons: first the project can get energetic, consumption and environmental information; second, station managers will be part of the final users thus they will get the project benefits.

Interesting energy indicators were developed with the collected data. For example energy consumption per traveller unit (which shows Spain as the country with the highest indicator), the consumption per implementation area (this time is France that has the highest value) and so furth.

Bad news concerning the renewable energy use: only 7% of the Spanish stations use it. In Portugal only one station of the sample has renewable energy and in France none of them has it. It was also concluded that 33% of the Spanish stations were certified. In France and Portugal only 7% and 2% of the stations were certified.
